To reduce the company's dependence on climate/weather conditions and to enhance the efficiency of the plant and to improve the quality of the products the company is setting up a few projects to diversify and to broaden the company's field of operation. Also HSL will produce more Bromine to meet the demand/supply gap of liquid bromine in India which is about 50% and require to over come by indigenous production of Liquid Bromine.
Kharaghoda & Sambhar – Ultra Mega Green Field Solar /Wind Power Project : Subject to support of State Government of Rajasthan, it is proposed to utilise its surplus land, SSL had planned various diversification projects. Since Sambhar Lake is part of Ramsar Convention, only green field projects have been planned. Keeping above in mind, plans were made to develop largest Solar Park on its surplus land.
Development of Theme Based Tourism Projects : MOU has been signed with ITDC for development of theme based tourism projects. Draft report has already been received. These Theme Based Tourism Projects are :
- Heritage Tourism
- Rural and Cultural Tourism
- Salt Lake Excursion Trips
- Salt Spa and Medical Resort Facilities
- Bird Watching Tourism
- Development of Artificial Canal along the boundary of land of SSL with Pedal Boat and Restaurant Facilities at every 5 kilometers.
- Rain Water Harvesting
- Aqua Culture
- Encroachment protection
- Beautification and Land Scaping with planting of Coconut, Palm and Date Trees.
- Rail Excursion Trip on its internal Rail Net Work passing through Salt Ponds.
- Religious Tourism.
Enhancement of Salt Production at Sambhar : Currently, on the land of Sambhar Salts Ltd. (SSL), approx. 2 lakhs tonne of raw Salt is produced every year. In addition, approx. 40,000 MT of Processed Salt is also produced.
Plans has been drawn to revive abandoned infrastructure and Salt production areas and enhance the raw Salt production from two lakhs TPA to 5 lakhs TPA by 2017-18 and 10 lakh TPA in next three years time. Schemes are also under preparation to enhance further capacity of raw salt production to 10 lakh Tonnes Per Annum
Enhancing Raw Salt Production to 5 Lakh TPA by 2016-17 & 10 Lakh TPA by 2019-20
Other Value Added Salt Based Production : In addition to Common Salt and Processed Salt, SSL have also made plans to introduce various flavoured Salt such as :
- Lemon Salt
- Ginger Salt
- Sainda Namak – Edible Rock Salt
- Lemon-Ginger Salt
- Black Salt
- Low Sodium Salt
- Iodised Black Salt
- Iodised Sainda Namak
- Iodised Lemon Salt.
- Double Fortified Salt
Enhancement of Capacity of Existing Salt Up-Gradation Plant from 1 Lakh TPA to 2 Lakh TPA : Currently, SSL has Salt Processing and Upgraded Plant (PSP Plant) having 60,000 MT capacity per annum.
Government of India has approved schemes for upgrading technology and enhancing capacity of PSP Plant to 2 lakh MT per annum which is currently under implementation and likely to be completed by September, 2015.
Enhancing Production Gudha Salt Refinery From 1 To 2 Lakh TPA : The Salt Refinery of 1 lakh MT per annum capacity at Gudha being installed from 2010 is not working and Turnkey contractor is not removing imbalances and is currently under retro-fitment, removal of imbalances and enhancement of capacity to 2 lakh MT per annum. Tenders have already been invited.
Production of Packaged Drinking Water : Plans have been made to install initially 200000 ltr/day water processing plant which will extract potable water and leave 50% highly saline water. This highly saline water will be discharged in Salt production crystallisers which will reduce Salt production time by almost 40% and increase Salt production. This system will also give 100000 ltr/day potable / package drinking water which is proposed to be supplied to IRCTC on their Rail Network.
Sulphate of Potash (SOP) :
An Import Substitution Fertiliser
Imports Approximately - 45000 TPA
Proposed Capacity - 10,000 TPA
Expected Investment (Excluding Land) - 40 Crore
Discussion are on with National Fertilisers Limited for implementation of project in Joint Venture.
Manufacturing of Bronopol : A Value added Product from Bromine, a Chemical Compound used in Pharmaceutical Industry
Magnesium Chloride : MgCl2 crystallizes in the cadmium chloride motif, which features octahedral Mg. A variety of hydrates are known with the formula MgCl2(H2O)x, and each loses water with increasing temperature: x = 12 (-16.4 °C), 8 (-3.4 °C), 6 (116.7 °C), 4 (181 °C), 2 (ca. 300 °C). In the hexahydrate, the Mg2+ remains octahedral, but is coordinated to six water legends. As suggested by the existence of several hydrates, anhydrous MgCl2 is a Lewis acid, although a relatively weak one. In the Dow process, magnesium chloride is regenerated from magnesium hydroxide using hydrochloric acid: Mg(OH)2(s) + 2 HCl ? MgCl2(aq) + 2 H2O(l)
It can also be prepared from magnesium carbonate by a similar reaction. In most of its derivatives, MgCl2 forms octahedral complexes. Derivatives with tetrahedral Mg2+ are less common.
Laying Pipeline from Sea Coast : To supplement supply of Brine for Enhanced Salt Production. A preliminary study has been done by WAPCOS. The estimated expenditure 45 crores
Salt Refinery of 2 Lakh TPA at Nawa :
Investment of Rs. 19.80 Crore.
Turn Over 60 Crore,
Pay Back – Less Than 3 Years
Organic Beta Carotene : An Import Substitution Product Used in Cosmetic and Pharmaceutical Industry.
Production of Beta-carotene from Algae Cultivation in Lake and Salt Ponds – an import substitution used for extraction of Vitamin A. Further cultivation of Algae on commercial scale will also be an attraction of Migratory Birds.
Industrial Reverse Osmosis (RO) for Packaged Water : As of now, water is passed in reservoirs than condensers and then to crystallizers for production of salt through natural solar evaporation process.
It is proposed to install Industrial Reverse Osmosis (RO) for Packaged Water Production. This will generate extra revenue, reduce production cycle of salt production and also improve the quality.
- Estimated Rock Salt Reserves- 116 ML Tons
- Proposed Capacity Vacuum Salt- 3,00,000 TPA
- Investment -230 Crore
- Expected Turn Over Per Annum -150 Crore
